The Malaysian Family Well-Being Index (FWBI) 2022

The Malaysian Family Well-Being Index (FWBI) 2022 is the fourth publication measuring the state of family well-be- ing in Malaysia. This index was developed as a tool to measure and monitor the progress of family well-being in the country.

Family well-being is a multidimensional concept that influences the overall harmony and contentment of family life. It involves various interconnected internal and external factors within the family insti- tution. Internal factors include family relationships, health, and the role of religion within the family, while external factors encompass the influence of society, community, and technology on family life.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) generated a sample size of 8,460, with an expected response rate of 60%. In total, 5,236 respon- dents—Malaysian parents with children aged 3 to 24 years—were suc- cessfully interviewed, covering both urban and rural areas across all states and Federal Territories in Malaysia. The index is assessed using a 10-point scale.
